CHAPTER 5. THE DOCUMENTS VICTORIA WANTED SIGNED

Daniel went straight to his study.

Victoria followed.

On his desk sat the folder he had planned to review later that evening.

Daniel opened it.

The documents would transfer temporary control of several Carter investments if Daniel became medically unable to manage them.

Victoria was listed as the emergency administrator.

Daniel stared at her.

You wanted me unable to attend the meeting.

Victoria shook her head.

Only for one night.

Daniel stepped closer.

So these could be approved without me there?

She did not answer.

That was enough.

Daniel called his attorney.

Within minutes, the documents were withdrawn.

Every authorization connected to Victoria was frozen.

Sophie stood quietly at the doorway.

Daniel looked at his daughter.

She had been the only person who noticed the cup being switched.

The only person who tried to warn him.

Victoria looked at Sophie.

This is all because you couldnt stay quiet.

Daniel immediately stepped between them.

No.

This is because she told the truth.

For the first time that night, Sophie stopped crying.
