Daniel asked everyone else to leave the dining room.
Only Victoria and Sophie remained.
He placed both cups on the table.
Then he called Marcus, the family physician who had been attending the dinner.
Marcus examined them.
Daniel asked.
Is there anything unusual here?
Marcus looked toward Victoria.
One cup contains Daniels normal coffee.
The other doesnt.
Daniel frowned.
What do you mean?
Marcus explained that Daniel had recently been told to avoid a certain ingredient because it could cause a serious reaction.
Victoria knew that.
She had attended the appointment.
Daniel stared at her.
Why would you give me something you knew I shouldnt have?
Victoria finally broke.
I wasnt trying to hurt you.
Daniel looked furious.
Then what were you trying to do?
She started crying.
I wanted you to feel sick.
Sophie stared at her.
Daniel could barely believe what he was hearing.
Victoria continued.
You were supposed to miss the meeting tonight.
Daniel froze.
The meeting.
He had planned to sign new company documents after dinner.
And suddenly everything made sense.
