CHAPTER 6. THE GIRL WHO NOTICED EVERYTHING

Three months later, another family dinner was held in the same dining room.

The chandelier still sparkled above the table.

The same relatives returned.

But Victoria was no longer there.

The investigation into the company documents had uncovered several additional attempts to gain control of Carter assets.

Daniel had removed her from every family financial role.

Sophie sat beside him.

She looked at his coffee cup.

Daniel noticed.

He smiled.

Its okay.

Sophie nodded.

Then she said quietly.

I was scared that night.

Daniel put his arm around her.

I know.

I thought you wouldnt believe me.

Daniel looked at her.

I should always listen when you tell me something feels wrong.

Sophie smiled.

Across the table, Marcus raised his glass.

To Sophie.

Everyone laughed softly.

Daniel looked around the room.

That night had begun with a spilled cup, a screaming child, and a dinner full of confused guests.

But it ended with something Daniel would never forget.

The smallest person in the room had noticed what every adult missed.

And because she spoke up, the truth came out before it was too late.
