Three months later, Lily stood in the same kitchen beside Daniel.
The small black camera was still mounted in the corner.
Daniel had considered removing it.
He never did.
Lily pointed upward.
That camera helped me.
Daniel smiled.
You helped yourself when you told me to look.
She thought for a moment.
Did you believe me before the video?
Daniel paused.
I should have listened sooner.
Lily nodded.
Victoria no longer lived at the house while Daniel worked through what had happened.
The kitchen felt peaceful again.
No shouting.
No fear.
Daniel looked toward the camera one final time.
It had not created the truth.
It had only made the truth impossible to ignore.
Then Lily took his hand.
And Daniel knew he would never again let her believe that an adults word automatically mattered more than hers.
