Daniel returned to his mother’s bedside.
Eleanor struggled to speak.
Vanessa watched from across the room.
Eleanor whispered.
“She wanted me to sign.”
Daniel’s expression hardened.
“What?”
Vanessa immediately interrupted.
“That is not what happened.”
Eleanor looked directly at Daniel.
“Don’t trust her.”
Daniel stood.
Vanessa stepped backward.
He finally understood why his mother had hidden the key.
She knew she might not have enough strength to explain everything.
So she left the evidence where Daniel could find it.
Daniel looked toward Vanessa.
“You’re done making decisions for her.”
Vanessa stared at him.
Then at the open drawer.
Everything she had tried to hide was now sitting in plain sight.
