CHAPTER 4. WHY VICTORIA PANICKED

Victoria sat down slowly.

Her anger disappeared.

She admitted that months earlier she had invested her own money into a private real estate project.

The project failed.

She lost almost everything.

Then the investors demanded more money to keep the company alive.

Daniel stared at her.

So you decided to use mine?

Victoria shook her head.

I was going to return it.

Eleanor laughed bitterly.

Thats what everyone says after they get caught.

Victoria looked toward her.

You wanted Daniel to hate me from the beginning.

Eleanor pointed at the folder.

I didnt forge his name.

Daniel raised his voice.

Enough.

Both women stopped.

Lily was standing beside him again.

Daniel looked down.

She had started crying because the adults were shouting.

Daniel immediately lowered his voice.

He picked her up.

Victoria watched him.

Daniel looked at his wife.

This is why she was crying when I came home?

Victoria looked ashamed.

Eleanor answered.

Lily saw Victoria hiding the documents.

Victoria was trying to make her stay quiet.

Daniel slowly turned toward his wife.

Now the entire dinner made sense.
