CHAPTER 3. THE SIGNATURE DANIEL NEVER MADE

Daniel opened the folder.

Inside were several financial documents connected to Carter Holdings.

At first, nothing looked unusual.

Then Daniel reached the final page.

His name was written at the bottom.

Daniel Carter.

He stared at the signature.

Victoria stepped closer.

Daniel, let me explain.

He looked at her.

I never signed this.

The room became silent.

Eleanor slowly sat down.

I knew something was wrong.

Daniel read further.

The document authorized a large transfer from one of the Carter family investment accounts.

The receiving company belonged to a private investment group Daniel had never heard of.

Daniel looked at Victoria.

Who owns this company?

She avoided his eyes.

Daniel repeated the question.

Victoria.

Finally she whispered.

A friend of mine.

Daniel stared at her.

How much money were you trying to move?

Victoria answered quietly.

Two million dollars.

Eleanor stood again.

Daniel looked stunned.

And you forged my signature?

Victoria started crying.

I was going to tell you.

Daniel looked at the papers.

Then why hide them under the dinner table?
