CHAPTER 3. THE DOCUMENT ROBERT LEFT BEHIND

Daniel unfolded the paper.

It was part of his father’s estate documents.

But Daniel had never seen it before.

Claire had found it hidden inside an old cabinet in the mansion library.

The document described a separate trust worth millions of dollars.

Daniel was listed as the beneficiary.

But there was another name beneath his.

Claire Carter.

Daniel stared at his wife.

You are part of the trust?

Claire shook her head.

I did not know.

Eleanor immediately interrupted.

Robert made mistakes near the end of his life.

Daniel looked at her.

Then why hide this?

Eleanor crossed her arms.

Because that money belongs to the Carter family.

Daniel held up the document.

Claire is my family.

Eleanor looked furious.

Not according to your father’s original plan.

Claire suddenly spoke from behind the bars.

There is more.

Daniel turned.

She pointed toward the bottom of the page.

Daniel read the final paragraph.

Then he looked back at his mother.

You tried to change the trust.
