CHAPTER 3. THE PHONE CALL

Ethan unlocked his phone and called Daniel.

His father answered immediately.

Ethan?

Dad.

There is a man here who says you sent him.

Daniel became silent.

What man?

Ethan looked toward the passenger behind him.

He says his name is Marcus.

Daniel’s voice changed.

Listen carefully.

I did not send anyone.

Ethan’s eyes widened.

Claire took the phone.

Mr. Carter, I am the lead flight attendant.

There is a passenger seated near your son who appears to know his name and travel details.

Daniel answered quickly.

Keep Ethan with the crew.

Do not let that man leave with him.

Claire looked toward Marcus.

He had stopped pretending to use his phone.

Now he was watching her.

Daniel continued.

And Claire…

Yes?

Marcus used to work for me.

He was fired six months ago.

Claire’s grip tightened around the phone.

Why would he be following your son?

Daniel answered.

Because Ethan is carrying something Marcus desperately wants.
