The screen still showed the recent call.

Derek went pale.
Claire noticed immediately.
“You know him?”
Derek did not answer.
Eleanor took the phone back.
“He knows exactly who Ethan is.”
Claire looked confused.
Eleanor continued.
“Ethan has spent the last six months investigating the money missing from this family.”
Derek stared at her.
“You had no right.”
Eleanor raised an eyebrow.
“Then why are you afraid?”
The ballroom became silent.
Claire finally understood.
The argument was never really about her.
