Eleanor stepped away from the crowd.
She dialed a number from memory.
Derek stared at her.
“Who are you calling?”
Eleanor ignored him.
The call connected.
A man answered.
Eleanor spoke quietly.
“It’s time.”
Then she ended the call.
Derek’s expression changed.
Claire slowly stood.
“What did you do?”
Eleanor looked at him.
“What you should have expected.”
Derek laughed nervously.
“You think one phone call scares me?”
Eleanor smiled.
“No.”
She looked toward the ballroom entrance.
“But the person I called might.”
