Daniel picked up the boarding passes.
One was for Victoria.
The second was for Lily Carter.
Departure time.
Less than two hours away.
Daniel looked at Victoria.
Where were you taking my daughter?
Victoria answered quickly.
It was supposed to be a surprise trip.
Daniel stared at her.
Without telling me?
Victoria crossed her arms.
You would have said no.
Daniel looked down at Lily.
The little girl was still crying.
Then she whispered.
Daddy, I did not want to go.
Daniel slowly looked back at Victoria.
She said you told her she had to come with you.
Victoria shook her head.
She misunderstood.
Daniel looked again at the ticket.
The destination was overseas.
One-way.
No return flight.
His face hardened.
This was not a weekend vacation.
Whatever Victoria had planned, she had never expected Daniel to see those tickets before they left.
