CHAPTER 1. THE GIRL AT THE VENT

Three-year-old Lily sat quietly on the hallway floor in pink pajamas.

In both hands, she held small snacks.

Her mother Rachel noticed her pushing one of them through a narrow wall vent.

Lily?

The little girl froze.

Rachel walked closer.

What are you doing?

Lily pointed toward the vent.

She is hungry.

Rachel frowned.

Who is hungry?

Lily whispered.

The girl inside.

Rachel stared at the wall.

There was supposed to be nothing behind it.

Then Daniel walked into the hallway.

Rachel pointed toward the vent.

Lily says someone is behind there.

Daniel crouched down.

Hello?

For several seconds, there was silence.

Then a faint child’s voice answered.

Please don’t leave.

Daniel immediately stood.

Whatever was behind that wall was real.
