CHAPTER 6. WHO WAS WAITING AT THE GATE

When the plane landed, passengers were asked to remain seated.

Airport security boarded first.

Marcus was escorted away for questioning.

Ethan stayed with Claire.

Then the cabin door opened again.

Daniel Carter appeared.

Ethan immediately ran toward him.

Dad.

Daniel dropped to one knee and hugged his son.

I’m sorry.

Ethan looked at him.

Marcus said you sent him.

Daniel shook his head.

Never.

Claire handed Daniel the blue envelope.

Still sealed.

Daniel looked surprised.

Ethan didnt open it.

Ethan smiled.

You told me not to.

Daniel hugged him again.

Weeks later, the investigation confirmed that Marcus had been following the Carter family trying to recover evidence connected to the missing company money.

But Ethan remembered something different about that flight.

Seat 2A.

The boarding pass.

The woman who noticed something was wrong.

And one phone call that changed everything.

Years later, whenever Ethan traveled alone, Daniel gave him the same instruction.

If anything feels wrong, call me first.

Ethan always answered the same way.

I know, Dad.

Seat 2A taught me.
