CHAPTER 4. WHAT ETHAN WAS CARRYING

Claire ended the call and crouched beside Ethan.

Your father says you have something important with you.

Ethan looked confused.

Then he remembered.

He opened his backpack.

Inside was a small blue envelope.

Dad told me not to open it.

Claire looked at the envelope.

What is inside?

I dont know.

Marcus suddenly stood.

Claire immediately stepped into the aisle.

Sir, please remain seated.

Marcus smiled.

I just need to speak to Ethan.

No.

His smile disappeared.

This is a family matter.

Claire shook her head.

Not on my aircraft.

Several passengers turned toward them.

Ethan held the blue envelope against his chest.

Marcus looked directly at it.

That reaction told Claire everything.

Whatever was inside the envelope was the real reason Marcus had boarded the flight.

Claire moved Ethan toward the galley.

Marcus tried to follow.

Two crew members blocked the aisle.

Then Ethan’s phone rang again.

Daniel.

This time, his father told him exactly what the envelope contained.
