Daniel walked toward the cabinet.
Victoria stepped in front of him.
There is nothing there.
Daniel moved past her.
Inside one drawer was a folder.
He opened it.
Copies of Lily’s birth certificate.
Travel documents.
A temporary school application in another country.
And a signed authorization form.
Daniel stared at the signature.
His name was at the bottom.
But Daniel had never signed it.
He looked at Victoria.
You forged my signature?
Her face went pale.
Daniel continued reading.
The document would have allowed Victoria to travel internationally with Lily without Daniel present.
Daniel looked at her.
Why?
Victoria started crying.
I thought you were going to leave me.
Daniel stared at her.
So your solution was to take Lily first?
Victoria shook her head.
I was scared.
Daniel looked toward his daughter.
Lily was watching everything.
Then Daniel said quietly.
She is not something either of us gets to use when we are scared.
