CHAPTER 5. DANIEL FINALLY SET A BOUNDARY

The officers spoke separately with everyone.

Lily stayed in Claires arms.

Daniel stood beside them.

Nobody was arrested.

But the officers documented what happened and advised the family to establish clear boundaries about who was responsible for Lily.

After they left, Eleanor looked at Daniel.

You embarrassed me in my own family.

Daniel shook his head.

No.

You ignored us until someone else had to explain it.

Eleanor looked hurt.

I was only trying to help.

Daniel answered quietly.

Helping means listening when her parents tell you what she needs.

Claire said nothing.

She did not need to.

Daniel continued.

From now on, you are not alone with Lily unless Claire and I both agree.

Eleanor stared at him.

You cannot be serious.

Daniel looked toward his daughter.

Lily had finally stopped crying.

He nodded.

I am.
