CHAPTER 5. THE CASH DANIEL COULDNT TOUCH

Daniel remained alone beside the counter.

His phone kept vibrating.

He ignored it.

For several minutes, he only stared at the money and the ring.

Then another message appeared.

FINAL DEADLINE. 8 PM.

Daniel finally understood how far things had gone.

He had borrowed from savings.

Moved money between accounts.

Hidden statements.

And convinced himself that one successful deal would erase everything.

Instead, he was standing in an empty kitchen with his wife’s wedding ring beside stacks of cash.

Daniel opened his banking app.

He canceled the pending transfer.

Then he called the investment company.

I’m done.

The man on the other end immediately became angry.

Daniel ended the call.

Next, he called the family accountant.

I need you to freeze every account I can access alone.

The accountant sounded confused.

Why?

Daniel looked at the ring.

Because I clearly stopped making good decisions months ago.

For the first time, he was no longer trying to save the investment.

He was trying to save what remained of his family.
