Titan was not looking at the child.
He was not focused on the crowd either.
His ears were pinned back.
His body was tense.
His eyes were fixed on one spot.
A pile of dead leaves only inches from the girl’s head.
I stopped pulling him.
The crowd kept shouting behind me.
The girl’s mother was desperately trying to get closer.
But Titan would not take his eyes off those leaves.
Then I heard something beneath all the noise.
A dry sound.
A heavy rattle.
My entire body went cold.
I knew exactly what that sound meant.
Titan had not charged across the park to attack the girl.
He had charged across the park because he had detected something before any of us did.
