Daniel asked the school to contact Madisons parents.
Less than an hour later, her father arrived.
Richard Hale walked into the principals office wearing an expensive suit.
Daniel recognized him immediately.

One of the schools largest donors.
Richard looked at Emma.
Then at Daniel.
Kids fight.

Daniel stared at him.
Your daughter dumped food over mine in front of an entire hallway.
Richard shrugged.
Then punish her.
But lets not destroy childrens futures over one mistake.
Emma looked at Daniel.
It wasnt one mistake.
Daniel nodded.
He opened a folder the school security officer had brought in.
Three previous complaints.
Two witness statements.
One written warning that had never been formally processed.
Daniel placed them on the principals desk.
Richard looked toward Principal Harris.
Why does he have those?
Daniel answered.
Because the officer found them in the system.
The room became quiet.
Principal Harris had not simply failed to act.
He had repeatedly minimized complaints involving one of his biggest donors children.
Richard turned toward him.
You said this was handled.
Emma heard that sentence.
So did Daniel.
And suddenly the problem was much bigger than one tray of spaghetti.
