Marcus reached into his jacket.
Eleanor immediately watched his hand.
He removed a small envelope.
Claire remained nearby.
Marcus opened it.
Inside was an old legal document.
Eleanor recognized her husband’s signature.
Marcus placed it on the tray table.
“My father kept this for twenty years.”
Eleanor stared at the page.
It described a private ownership agreement involving Carter Holdings.
A share of the company had belonged to Robert Hale.
But after he disappeared, the ownership was quietly removed.
Eleanor looked at Marcus.
“You think my family stole from yours?”
Marcus shook his head.
“I think someone changed the records.”
He folded the document.
“And I’m about to find out who.”
