Daniel stopped.
He looked toward the playhouse.
Sophie appeared behind the small window.
Her face was frightened.
Dad.
Daniel immediately ran across the lawn.
Victoria turned and saw him coming.
Her expression changed.
Daniel reached the door and grabbed the handle.
It would not open.
Then he saw the padlock.
He looked toward Victoria.
Why is this locked?
She quickly answered.
They were misbehaving.
Daniel stared at her.
You locked them inside?
Victoria crossed her arms.
Only for a few minutes.
From behind the door, Noah began crying louder.
Dad, please.
Daniel’s expression hardened.
Where is the key?
Victoria hesitated.
Daniel stepped closer.
Give me the key.
She finally reached into her hand and produced it.
Daniel took it immediately.
Victoria tried to explain.
Daniel, you dont understand what they did.
He ignored her.
He crouched beside the lock.
His hands moved quickly.
Behind the wooden door, Sophie was comforting Noah.
Its okay.
Dad is here.
Daniel heard her.
And that sentence made him even angrier.
His children had been waiting for him to come home.
Now he wanted to know exactly why.
