The training room was packed when Staff Sergeant Cole stepped onto the red mat.
He was bigger than everyone around him.
Broad shoulders.
Heavy frame.
And completely confident.
Across from him stood Captain Emma Brooks.
She was smaller, calm, and expressionless.
Cole looked at her and laughed.
This is who they sent?
Several soldiers around the mat smiled.
Emma said nothing.
The instructor reminded them that it was controlled training.
Cole barely listened.
He looked at Emma again.
You can still walk away.
Emma raised her hands.
Begin.
Cole smiled.
Then he charged forward.
He expected her to retreat.
She did not.
