The party was already loud when Claire stepped too close to the edge of the pool.
Music played.
Guests laughed.
Red cups filled the tables.
Then someone bumped her from behind.
Claire lost her balance.
She fell straight into the water.
The crowd gasped.
Then several people started laughing.
Claire surfaced, soaked and stunned.
Her gold dress clung to her body as she pulled herself toward the edge.
Daniel stood nearby in a white shirt.
His face changed immediately.
Claire climbed out of the pool.
She looked around at the smiling guests.
Then at Victoria.
Victoria was holding a red cup and trying not to laugh.
Claire stared at her.
Did you do that?
Victoria shrugged.
It was an accident.
Claire looked toward Daniel.
He had seen enough to know that was not true.
