CHAPTER 5. WHY VICTORIA PANICKED

Victoria finally admitted the truth.

Her brothers company was collapsing.

He needed money immediately.

She believed Daniel would refuse to help.

So she prepared the transfer herself.

Daniel stared at her.

Using my signature.

Victoria started crying.

I was going to tell you.

When?

She had no answer.

Daniel pointed toward Sophie and Noah.

And when they saw the documents, you locked them outside.

Victoria shook her head.

I panicked.

Daniel’s voice remained controlled.

They are children.

Victoria lowered her eyes.

I know.

Sophie stepped closer to her father.

She told us you would be angry if we talked.

Daniel looked at Victoria again.

That sentence changed everything.

This was no longer only about money.

Victoria had tried to make the children afraid to tell their father the truth.

Daniel took out his phone and called his attorney.

Freeze every pending transfer from my accounts.

Victoria looked shocked.

Daniel continued.

And remove every authorization connected to Victoria until we review everything.

When the call ended, he looked at her.

You are leaving the house tonight.

Daniel.

No.

He glanced toward the children.

I can forgive mistakes.

But I will not allow them to believe they have to stay silent because an adult tells them to.
