CHAPTER 3. THE NAME SHE RECOGNIZED

Eleanor looked more carefully at Marcus.

“How do you know the Hale family?”

Marcus stared at her.

“That is my family.”

Eleanor became still.

Claire looked between them.

Marcus continued.

“My father was Robert Hale.”

Eleanor’s face went pale.

Robert Hale had once worked closely with her husband.

Then he disappeared after a financial dispute nobody in the family ever discussed.

Eleanor looked toward the aisle.

“What are you doing on this flight?”

Marcus answered calmly.

“Going to New York.”

“For what?”

He raised the boarding pass.

“To meet the attorney handling the Carter estate.”

Now Eleanor understood.

This was not a coincidence.
