CHAPTER 1. THE DINNER MEETING

The private restaurant was nearly empty when Daniel Carter arrived for the most important dinner of the year.

He wore a cream suit and sat beside Victoria, his longtime business partner.

Across the table lay a thick contract worth millions.

Daniel lifted his glass.

Tonight changes everything.

Victoria smiled.

If the deal closes.

A young waitress named Claire approached the table wearing a black uniform.

She placed another drink beside Daniel.

Then she looked down at the contract.

Her expression changed.

Daniel noticed.

Something wrong?

Claire immediately looked away.

No, sir.

Victoria glanced at her.

Then continue working.

Claire nodded.

But as she walked away, she looked back at the final page of the contract.

There was a signature line Daniel had not filled in yet.

And Claire recognized the company name printed above it.

She had seen it before.

On documents belonging to her late father.

The spring breeze was gentle, carrying the faint scent of cherry blossoms.
