The front doors of the mountain lodge suddenly opened.
Three-year-old Noah stumbled outside barefoot into the snow.
He wore only thin pajamas.
Behind him stood Victoria, dressed elegantly for the family gathering inside.
Noah looked back at her.
Please.
Victoria pointed toward the driveway.
Go.
Noah started crying.
The snow reached almost to his knees as he struggled forward.
Inside the lodge, music and conversation continued.
Nobody noticed.
Then a black SUV pulled into the driveway.
Robert Carter stepped out.
He was Noahs grandfather.
Robert immediately saw the tiny child standing alone in the snow.
Noah?
The boy turned.
Grandpa.
Robert ran toward him.
He lifted Noah into his arms and wrapped his coat around him.
What are you doing out here?
Noah pointed toward the lodge.
Victoria told me to go outside.
Robert slowly looked toward the open front doors.
Victoria was still standing there.
Watching them.
