That evening, Daniel asked Rachel to show him everything she had been doing with Noah.

She opened a folder on her tablet.

Inside were videos from the previous three weeks.

In the first clip, Noah could barely move from his wheelchair to the carpet without assistance.

Rachel stayed beside him.

Never touching him unless he asked.

In another clip, Noah reached for a toy only a few inches away.

Then a foot.

Then farther.

Every day, he became stronger.

Daniel watched silently.

Why didnt you tell me?

Rachel hesitated.

He had canceled therapy exercises.

Stopped outdoor activities.

Even removed furniture because he worried Noah might fall.

Rachel continued.

Your son isnt asking to pretend nothing happened.

He just wants to know what he can still do.

Daniel looked toward Noah’s room.

Why the sailboat?

Rachel smiled slightly.

Because it belonged to you.

Daniel looked surprised.

Noah found an old photograph of Daniel holding the same wooden boat as a child.

He had spent days trying to reach it on his own.

Daniel looked at the paused video.

His son had not been trying to escape his wheelchair.

He had been trying to reach something that connected him to his father.
