Hi.<\/p>\n

The boy looked toward Rachel.<\/p>\n

Then back at Emily.<\/p>\n

Mama?<\/p>\n

Emily’s face collapsed into tears.<\/p>\n

Yes.<\/p>\n

He ran toward her.<\/p>\n

Emily caught him and held him against her chest.<\/p>\n

Exactly the way she had imagined every night.<\/p>\n

She closed her eyes.<\/p>\n

He felt heavier than she remembered.<\/p>\n

Warmer.<\/p>\n

Real.<\/p>\n

Rachel began crying too.<\/p>\n

Emily kissed her son’s forehead.<\/p>\n

I am sorry I missed so much.<\/p>\n

The boy wrapped his arms around her neck.<\/p>\n

Emily held him tighter.<\/p>\n

She could never recover the years she lost.<\/p>\n

But standing outside those gates, she understood something.<\/p>\n
