Daniel opened the flash drive with investigators present.
It contained old family records.
Trust documents.
Property transfers.
Letters from his father.
And evidence that Sarah had been deliberately removed from the Carter inheritance decades earlier.
Daniel stared at the screen.
His father had not hidden Sarah because she was dangerous.
He had hidden her because money was easier to control without her.
Then Daniel found a recent video.
Sarah appeared on screen.
She looked exhausted.
Daniel.
If you ever see this, I hope Emily reached you.
Daniel leaned closer.
Sarah continued.
Dad lied to both of us.
I spent years believing you knew.
Daniel shook his head.
He had known nothing.
Sarah explained that she had recently discovered documents proving she still had legal rights to part of the family estate.
Someone began following her after she contacted an attorney.
She sent Emily away for protection.
The video ended with one final request.
Please don’t let Emily disappear the way I did.
Daniel looked across the room at his niece.
Emily was sitting beside Lily.
The two girls were holding hands.
Daniel closed the laptop.
For the first time in thirty years, he knew exactly what he needed to do.
