Emma placed a sealed military report on the table.
Robert stared at it.
What is this?
A report I submitted six months ago.
Robert looked confused.
I never received it.
Emma turned toward Claire.
I know.
Claire immediately shook her head.
Do not drag me into this.
Emma opened the file.
The report concerned missing equipment, falsified shipping records, and millions of dollars in contracts connected to the naval base.
Robert slowly read the first page.
Then he looked up.
Who approved these transfers?
Emma answered quietly.
Your office.
Robert’s face changed.
Impossible.
Emma nodded toward Claire.
That is what I thought too.
Until I discovered someone had been using your authorization while you were overseas.
Robert slowly turned toward Claire.
She stopped breathing.
