The next morning, Ethan walked back into the same classroom.
The security camera was still above the ceiling.
But Ms. Parker was not at the front of the room.
A substitute teacher greeted the students.
The school had opened a formal review of the incident and several earlier complaints.
Ethan sat down.
Sophie turned toward him.
You okay?
He nodded.
Yeah.
Then he looked toward the camera.
Yesterday, I hated that thing.
Sophie smiled.
Why?
Because I thought cameras were only there to watch students.
He paused.
Turns out sometimes they watch adults too.
Sophie laughed softly.
The substitute teacher began class.
No shouting.
No accusations.
No one was afraid to speak.
Ethan opened his notebook.
For him, the biggest lesson from the day before had nothing to do with schoolwork.
Sometimes telling the truth was not enough when nobody wanted to listen.
But when the truth was recorded, it became much harder to ignore.
